I didn’t do a follow-up telephone call because I was suspicious that dirt is the actual culprit. I emailed Ruger while they were out for the Thanksgiving holidays and, surprisingly, they never replied. ![]() I took close-up photos of my Magazine Latch and sent them to Ruger because, while I see some very minor chipping along the Magazine Latch edge, it isn’t worn and, to me, I see no reason that a new Magazine Latch would cure the dropping issue. Thanks to Bushcraft412’s video, I removed, examined and re-installed my Magazine Latch. I measured Ruger’s USA and Italian magazines as well as a ProMag and while the USA magazine is slightly smaller I am unconvinced that it is the primary cause. Some people blame Ruger’s USA made magazines as the source of the problem. He shows how to replace the Magazine Latch and, for him, replacing the latch cured his issue with dropping magazines. One person, Bushcraft412, even posted a nice video about it on YouTube. This problem is apparently a common problem and is oft reported in the forums. I use this pistol because these tactical competitions allow me to practice with my carry gun in somewhat more realistic scenarios. I often shoot them gun in a tactical competition and having this happen is quite a problem. ![]() The magazine will pop out about a quarter inch about once per 20 rounds fired. After a thousand or so rounds, my Ruger LC9S has started dropping its magazines while being shot. ![]()
